I turn 50 this year... I have decided to get some of my life in order... first things first, my yarn stash.I live in a small apartment and want to move, my yarn stash has taken over and needs to be reduced. Who really knew that 3 years in this apartment would collect so much yarn in every tiny nook and cranny... so to remedy this, I have started a blanket. I had asked my daughter to go into my yarn closet and to pick out 5-6-7-8-ish skeins or balls of yarn of the same weight/content/etc so I could make a blanket. I needed a project that didn't require thinking with few rules and no pattern to speak of. I have little patience when in comes to new ideas and I couldn't wait for her and did it while she was at school. I wanted it to be fast easy and the only rule was, I couldn't use the same color right after another. I didn't know if it was going to be a baby/lap size or what when I started so I decided that would come later. I started with a large hook, so it would be light (100*F days right now) and progress quickly. I decided the chevron/ripple pattern was the choice and began.
At first, it seemed crazy. Looked funny. Was very bright- sunglasses bright. This is easy to take outside and sit in the shade while the dog does her business and soak up the morning light before the day gets too hot- by 9 AM it is starting to get too hot... and is fun. The blanket is proving to be a fun project. The color combinations are great contrasts and harmonious at the same time, while using up bits of left-over yarn. I am one who just does not go for bright, bold colors and patterns. My personal favorites look great together (think mud, moss, olive drab, bark, etc) and are my go to colors. I decided this blanket would help me break out of my comfort zone... and it is chipping away the corners of my world, it might take two or more to actually make a hole big enough to let me out, but I am on my way.
